1. Who this applies to
Reading MailerDot is free. Readers never pay, so there is nothing on this page for them — to stop receiving a daily edition, use the one-click unsubscribe link in any email.
This policy applies to the two things MailerDot sells: Operator leases — a monthly fee for the commercial rights to a city ("Territory") — and paid listings (events and the business directory), one-time purchases described in §8. It forms part of the Terms of Service, and where the two differ on billing, this page governs.
2. Who you are buying from
Territory lease payments and listing purchases are sold and processed by Creem (Armitage Labs OÜ), acting as the merchant of record. That means Creem — not MailerDot — is the seller on the transaction: it takes the payment, issues the invoice, and collects and remits any sales tax or VAT that applies where you are. MailerDot never receives or stores your card number.
The charge appears on your statement as CREEM.IO* MAILERDOT, not as "MailerDot". Your purchase is also subject to the Creem Buyer Terms, which you accept at checkout. You can look up your own orders, receipts, and subscriptions at creem.io/my-orders/login.
3. What you are charged
- $10 per month per Territory, covering that Territory's first 1,000 subscribers, plus $5 per month for each additional 1,000. The exact amount is shown for each Territory before you check out and on your dashboard afterwards.
- Billed monthly in advance, and it renews automatically until you cancel. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
- A price rise takes effect at your next renewal, never mid-cycle, and we email you when one is scheduled. If the Territory's audience falls back below the tier before that renewal, the increase is cancelled automatically.
- Prices are shown exclusive of tax unless stated otherwise. Creem adds and remits whatever tax applies in your jurisdiction.
- Listings are separate one-time purchases at the flat prices on /advertise — they renew nothing, and §8 governs their refunds.
4. Cancelling
You can cancel a lease yourself, at any time, from your dashboard — Settings → Cancel this town. No email, no phone call, no retention queue. You can also cancel from the Creem order page linked in your receipt.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep the spotlight, the inbox, the reporting, and your listing revenue share until then.
- Partial months are not pro-rated or refunded. Cancelling on day 3 of a month still runs to day 30.
- When the period ends the Territory returns to MailerDot and its free edition keeps publishing. Subscribers stay with the Territory — they are not yours to take and were never charged for anything.
If a payment fails
A failed payment does not end your lease immediately. We hold the Territory through a short grace period so you can update your card; if it is still unpaid when the grace period ends, the lease ends and the Territory is re-listed. We email you when this starts, and you can update the card from the link in your receipt.
5. Refunds
A period that has been served is not refunded. A lease is a live service: from the moment payment clears, your spotlight runs in every edition, the town inbox and reporting are yours, listing sales in your Territory accrue your revenue share, and the Territory is held exclusively for you and off the market for everyone else. Once a month has run, that has been delivered.
We do refund, in full and without argument, where the charge should not have happened:
- Duplicate or erroneous charges — billed twice for the same Territory and period, billed the wrong amount, or billed after a cancellation had taken effect.
- A Territory that never went live — you paid, but the lease was not granted (for example another claimant's payment for the same Territory was completed first). The whole payment comes back.
- A price increase applied mid-cycle, contrary to Terms §11. We refund the difference.
- Sustained failure on our side — if a Territory's editions stop publishing for reasons within our control for more than seven consecutive days, we refund that month on request.
- Anything a consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction requires, including any statutory right of withdrawal. Those rights are not waived by anything on this page.
We do not refund a lease because a Territory grew more slowly than you hoped, or because you did not use what it carries — neither is promised in the Terms, and Section 15 of the Terms says so directly.
Separately from all of the above, Creem reserves the right, as merchant of record, to issue a refund on our behalf within 60 days of a purchase at its own discretion — including if we fail to respond to you. We do not override that.
6. How to ask
Use our support contact form with the Territory, the charge amount, and the date. We reply within 3 business days. An approved refund is issued through Creem and typically reaches your account within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
If we have not replied within 7 days, escalate to Creem support and they will resolve it for you.
7. Before you file a chargeback
Please write to us first. A chargeback takes weeks, is decided by your bank rather than by anyone who can see what happened, and costs us a fee on top of the refund — where an email usually settles it the same week. If you do not recognise a charge, it will read as CREEM.IO* MAILERDOT on your statement; look it up at creem.io/my-orders/login or ask us and we will identify it.
None of this limits your right to dispute a charge with your card issuer. It is a request to give us the chance first.
8. Paid listings
A standard listing is free — it involves no payment, so nothing in this policy applies to it. A premium listing — an event listing, or a business directory listing — is a one-time purchase at the flat price published on /advertise, screened before payment and live from the moment payment clears: an event listing runs until the day of the event, a directory listing runs thirty days from publication. Reading MailerDot is free, always — a listing buys placement, never access. The refund rules follow the order of the flow, and apply to both products alike:
- Rejected at screening: never charged. The compliance review runs before checkout exists, so a submission we decline has paid nothing and there is nothing to refund.
- Paid but never published: refunded in full. If payment clears and the listing never runs — the event's date passed before activation, a fault on our side, anything that means you paid for a run that did not happen — the charge is refunded in full through Creem.
- Removed for breaching the standards: not refunded. A listing pulled for violating the listing standards or Terms §10 stops running and the fee is not returned. A listing we remove for any reason on our side, short of a breach, is refunded in full.
- Your event is cancelled, or your plans change: write to us before the listing's run begins and we will do the sensible thing — usually a date fix or, at our discretion, a refund. A run already served — an event listing past its date, a directory listing past its thirty days — is not refunded.
Listings are sold by MailerDot only, at published prices only. If anyone else asks you to pay to appear in a MailerDot edition, they are not acting for us; please tell us through our support contact form.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The version in force for a charge is the one published when that charge was made, and material changes affecting Operators are emailed at least 30 days before they take effect.
