Highway 127 Bridge Over Little Minnesota River Reopens Today
Veblen, SD · November 6, 2026
Pack an extra layer for the evening commute, especially if you plan to follow the highway south for hot chili tonight. The local weekend calendar is already filling up with warm food and stage lights.
The Lead
Roberts County travelers heading south toward Sisseton will notice a smoother trip starting today. The South Dakota Department of Transportation announced that the newly constructed bridge over the Little Minnesota River on State Highway 127 is officially reopening to traffic on Friday, November 6.
The three-mile stretch between the Highway 10 junction and 116th Street had remained closed since January 20, forcing motorists onto a prolonged detour along Interstate 29 while crews replaced both the deteriorating bridge and adjacent box culvert structures. Prime contractor Young Gun Construction of Ludlow completed the $7.7 million infrastructure overhaul right on its projected early-November deadline. While travelers will enjoy unobstructed lanes immediately, state engineers note that final roadside seeding will wrap up along the shoulders over the coming days without disrupting passing traffic.
