Marshall County homeowners planning essential structural fixes or winterization projects have new financial backing this week through a targeted community development boost. First Savings Bank, which operates full-service branches in Veblen, Britton, and Hecla, has teamed with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Member Impact Fund to award a $17,500 grant to GROW South Dakota. The funding bolsters GROW SD’s regional revolving pool, specifically expanding affordable housing access and matching grants for critical roof, heating, and foundation upgrades across northeastern prairie towns. For older rural properties where independent contractors and capital can be difficult to align, the supplemental dollars help close the affordability gap before freezing temperatures set in. Application intake through GROW SD’s housing department remains open on a rolling basis, with priority given to urgent health and safety improvements.
