High Schoolers Launch New Student-Run Enterprise Redside Solutions
Tygh Valley, OR · October 7, 2026
The morning chill will burn off fast under today's sun, just in time for the county's recovery hearing in The Dalles and an easy evening along the river.
The Lead
South Wasco County School District has secured a $250,000 state Career and Technical Education Revitalization Grant, giving south county students a direct path into hands-on trade work and business ownership. Partnering with Arlington School District’s Honker Tech program, the district is rolling out Redside Solutions, a student-run venture where local teenagers will tackle real fabrication projects for area residents and businesses.
The funding outfits classrooms with advanced equipment, including CNC machinery, laser engravers, 3D printers, and welding tools. Instead of standard classroom assignments, participating students will manage client bids, order raw materials, design custom products using computer-aided drafting software, and deliver completed orders on deadline. District staff are finalizing vendor orders for the new shop equipment this month, aiming to have the student-run enterprise bidding on community projects before the school year ends.
