Fair Board Reconvenes Wednesday at the Dew Drop Inn

Tygh Valley, OR · October 5, 2026

Mornings are dipping into the upper forties, but summer heat still has a grip on the afternoon across the hills. Keep a light jacket by the door before heading out toward the pastures or into the canyon today.

The Lead

When the Grasshopper Fire prompted Level 2 evacuations across the valley in mid-August, the sudden cancellation of the 110-year-old county fair dealt a sharp emotional and financial blow to local 4-H families and fair organizers. Two months later, the dust has settled, and the Wasco County Fair Board meets this Wednesday evening at the Dew Drop Inn to begin charting a path forward.

Wednesday’s agenda focuses on financial assessments from the curtailed summer season, winterization and facility needs at Hunt Park, and opening volunteer recruitment for next summer's rodeo and exhibits. For south county residents whose annual rhythm centers on the show rings, the session is a welcome return to normal business. The public meeting begins at 6:00 PM at 81849 Fairgrounds Road, with written comments accepted in advance through the county fair office.
