Footpaths along the coastal marsh are back open this weekend after crews wrapped up shoreline stabilization work at Jenkins Creek Park.
The project tackled roughly 890 feet of worn waterfront walking and fishing paths vulnerable to high tides and storm washouts. In partnership with the Minnow Creek Conservancy, workers reinforced the path edges using recycled oyster shells, cleared out encroaching Brazilian pepper trees, and planted native vegetation to anchor the fragile bank.
For local anglers and birdwatchers who frequent the Shoal Line corridor, the oyster-shell reinforcement provides solid footing while keeping the waterway clear of loose silt. County staff plan to monitor the new plantings over the next six weeks to ensure the marsh grasses root firmly ahead of late-season tides.
