Former Mayor Patty Campbell Named Citizen of the Year

Seal Beach, CA · October 1, 2026

If you hear acoustic guitars drifting past the pier tonight, that is just Bogart's kicking off its Thursday folk sessions. Before the music starts, there is plenty of neighborhood news to share over coffee.

The Lead

During Monday night’s council session, the chamber broke into a spontaneous standing ovation as Lion Scott Newton stepped up with an unscheduled announcement: long-time College Park East resident Patty Campbell has been selected as the 2027 Citizen of the Year. A 56-year resident of the city, Campbell previously served eight years on the City Council, held the mayor’s gavel twice, and has guided neighborhood planning as a planning commissioner since 2013. Beyond the dais, she co-founded the College Park East Neighborhood Association, organizing longtime neighborhood staples like Movies in the Park, the Fourth of July barbecue, and Spring Fling. District Four Councilwoman Patty Senecal presented Campbell with flowers, celebrating decades spent championing neighborhood cohesion. Campbell will ride in the annual Christmas Parade this December before taking the stage at the Cypress College Americana Gala in March.
