Trophy celebrations are still echoing across the county this morning after an unforgettable Saturday on the pitch. Grab a thick fleece before heading out to take in the weekend's final matches.

The Lead

The Central Hardin Lady Bruins soccer team brought home school history Saturday evening, securing their first-ever KHSAA state championship with a 1-0 shutout against perennial power South Oldham at Lexington Sporting Club stadium. Junior Audrey McGee netted the match's lone goal in the sixth minute off an assist from Carly Lang, and the Bruin defense held firm across the remaining 74 minutes in front of an electric traveling crowd.

The victory capped an undefeated 25-0-3 campaign that energized neighborhoods across northern Hardin County, where community members lined Highway 62 with handmade posters and cheered a law enforcement escort as the team departed earlier in the day. Central Hardin faculty and students plan to celebrate the squad with a championship trophy showcase and hallway walk during morning classes this week.
