Crisp morning air has settled over the lawns today, though downtown sidewalks will see plenty of foot traffic once the car engines begin rumbling.

The Lead

Daily commuters heading into Fort Knox will want to map out alternate routes before next week rolls in. Installation officials have confirmed that the Wilson Gate—the primary southern portal connecting Wilson Road and Dixie Highway to the post—will close completely on Tuesday, November 10, and Wednesday, November 11, for the federal Veterans Day observance and an accompanying training holiday.

The two-day closure means all workforce traffic typically funneling through Wilson Road will need to divert to the Chaffee Gate off Bullion Boulevard, which remains open 24 hours a day. The Brandenburg Gate will also shut its lanes on Wednesday. Commuters can still use Chaffee Avenue's on-ramps to U.S. 31W between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM, but gate guards anticipate heavier morning queues at the main entrance. Leaving home fifteen minutes earlier next week should keep unexpected delays off your dashboard.
