Full Military Honors for Nine Unclaimed Veterans at Central Cemetery
Radcliff, KY · October 2, 2026
Wipers on, headlights glowing: steady autumn rain has settled in early today. Grab an extra cup of coffee before tackling the morning commute.
The Lead
Ten unclaimed individuals, including nine military veterans and one spouse, were laid to rest with full military honors during a ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Together, their remains had waited unclaimed for more than 313 years across the Commonwealth. Active-duty soldiers from Fort Knox, local veterans service organizations, and area residents stood alongside the Patriot Guard Riders to provide the formal escort and rifle salutes each service member earned.
The interments honor personnel from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force who served across World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War eras. For our military-rooted community, the service represents a solemn pact that no veteran is abandoned in death. Cemetery staff and volunteer genealogists are already researching dozens of additional records to prepare for next spring’s regional memorial roll.

That grassroots drive raised $121,000 in weeks, establishing the national nonprofit USA Cares.
