The Lead
Lincoln Trail Elementary School is starting the new school year with a major upgrade to its campus: a brand-new 20-by-40-foot covered outdoor classroom. Built through a collaborative community effort, the project brought together local businesses and county workers to create an open-air instructional space for students.
Initial dirt work was donated by a local contractor, while area businesses provided gravel, concrete, and custom signage. A six-person work crew from the Hardin County Detention Center handled construction and metal roofing alongside jail leadership, working in partnership with school leadership and the PTA to coordinate funding and site planning. Teachers plan to use the sheltered facility for hands-on science experiments, art projects, and outdoor reading sessions throughout the upcoming school year.
