Strollers along the downtown riverwalk have likely noticed fresh splashes of color against the weathered stone. A newly launched public art initiative by the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism alongside the Chroma Council is bringing large-scale murals painted by local artists directly to the waterfront walkways. The effort focuses on activating the pedestrian paths stretching between Waterplace Park and the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge, transforming blank concrete abutments and retaining walls into an evolving open-air gallery. Unlike temporary festival displays, these installations are permanent additions designed to brighten the riverfront corridor for year-round walkers and daily commuters. With the initial batch completed this week, artists will continue painting additional panels along the lower riverwalk through the end of the month.
