The Lead

The full schedule for PVDFest 2026 arrived today, officially locking in the festival's return to the historic downtown grid from September 18 through September 19. Produced by the city's Department of Art, Culture and Tourism with longtime partner FirstWorks, this year's edition brings dozens of regional and international performers across multiple outdoor stages.

Headliners include New Orleans bounce icon Big Freedia, salsa outfit La Excelencia, and Rhode Island native Butch Tavares, anchored alongside the popular LUV U BETTER block party at the Providence Rink. Staging will reclaim the core corridor from Kennedy Plaza and Burnside Park to Washington and Snow streets, transforming vehicle lanes into pedestrian maker spaces, food alleys, and live mural showdowns. City public works crews are finalizing traffic detour signage this week ahead of early equipment load-ins next Wednesday.
