Houston County’s first fully inclusive playground is nearing the finish line at Magnolia Point Park on Langston Road. Spearheaded by the Haseya Women’s Club, the project reached a major milestone this week as specialized playground equipment began going into the ground following a three-year grassroots campaign that raised over $1 million.
The vision began with local mother Avoly Wainwright, whose young son lives with hemiparesis. Partnering with club co-chair Melissa Murphy, the group teamed up with the City of Perry to turn vacant municipal acreage near the Greystone subdivision into an all-abilities destination. While the city constructed the paved parking and accessible restroom facilities, private donations funded the custom play structures, sensory elements, and adaptive swings designed so children with mobility challenges can play directly alongside their peers.
Crews expect to complete equipment installation next month ahead of a planned November ribbon cutting.
