First Families Receive Keys at Community of Hope Today

Nebo, NC · October 10, 2026

Watching raindrops collect on the porch rails sets a slow pace for Saturday, but two neighborhood families are stepping through brand-new front doors this morning.

The Lead

Two families whose lives were upended by floodwaters are stepping into fully furnished, brand-new houses this morning as volunteers hand over the first keys in the new Community of Hope. The Honeycutt and Hollifield families are receiving keys to completed homes built through a partnership between disaster relief organization God’s Pit Crew, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Ray and Kay Eckstein Charitable Trust. Crews framed the structures at an operations facility in Danville before trucking them to Nebo, where volunteers spent two intense weeks hanging drywall, laying flooring, setting appliances, and stocking kitchen cupboards. Today’s morning ribbon-cutting marks the first phase of an eight-home pocket neighborhood rising along the hillside. Volunteer build shifts for the remaining six homes resume later this month as site contractors wrap up driveway grading and utility ties.
