Master Quilters Unveil Annual Showcase on Main Street
Nebo, NC · October 6, 2026
Chilly air is lingering in the hollows at daybreak, but clear skies will make quick work of it by lunchtime. Plentiful sunshine should give you every reason to step out and explore the foothills today.
The Lead
The Mountain Glory Quilters’ Guild unveiled its annual autumn exhibition at the McDowell Arts Council Association gallery on South Main Street yesterday, kicking off festival week across the county. Based out of St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Pleasant Gardens, the guild convenes twice a month to preserve traditional Appalachian piecing techniques alongside modern textile craft.
This year’s showcase displays dozens of member-crafted works spanning intricate geometric patchwork, nature-inspired applique, and detailed longarm stitching. Visitors can also view and enter the raffle for the guild’s handmade queen-size feature quilt, with ticket proceeds underwriting fine arts scholarships for local students. The gallery remains open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5:00 PM, giving neighbors a quiet preview before street festival crowds arrive downtown this weekend.
