Sunday mornings along the water move at an easy pace, especially with today's overcast skies keeping the midday glare in check. If you're heading out before kickoff, the neighborhood paths are wide open.

The Lead

The City of Miami finalized plans for a $5 million overhaul linking Kirk Munroe Park and adjacent Fuller Street in Coconut Grove. Structured through a public-private partnership between the city and Allen Morris Company, the project pairs $3 million from municipal capital improvement funds with $2 million in private contributions.

The blueprint converts Fuller Street into a curbless, stone-paved pedestrian promenade while shielding mature root systems with underground suspended pavement cells. Across the block, Kirk Munroe Park will receive resurfaced tennis courts, a rebuilt hitting wall, an ornamental stone pavilion, an event lawn, and more than 100 newly planted native trees—from gumbo limbos to pigeon plums. The neighborhood’s beloved banyan is slated for a protective timber deck and dedicated butterfly garden. Permitting reviews are advancing through winter ahead of a scheduled January groundbreaking.
