Clear out your late-night driving plans early, or get ready to explore the city's surface detours after dark. Between a full overnight shutdown on the 836 and patio-perfect November weather, today is built for staying local.

The Lead

If you are navigating the central corridor tonight, plan your trip around a total overnight shutdown of the Dolphin Expressway. Beginning at 11:00 PM, the Florida Department of Transportation will close all eastbound travel lanes of State Road 836 at Northwest 17th Avenue, followed by a full westbound closure between Northwest 12th and 17th Avenues starting at 1:00 AM.

The shutdown allows crews to safely advance heavy structural work connected to the ongoing corridor enhancement and signature bridge construction. Eastbound traffic will divert onto neighborhood surface routes along Northwest 7th Street and Southwest 1st Street toward downtown and the causeways, while westbound motorists must exit at Northwest 12th Avenue to loop back around.

All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 8:00 AM Sunday, well ahead of the morning rush.
