A Fresh Blueprint for the 5.6-Mile Ludlam Trail

Miami, FL · October 6, 2026

Overcast skies are keeping the morning pavement cool, giving us a calm start before County Hall takes up transit votes at 9:30.

The Lead

County leaders and parks planners gathered at South Miami Senior High School last night to roll out the Phase 1 strategy for the 5.6-mile Ludlam Trail corridor. The long-anticipated initiative converts an abandoned Florida East Coast Railway corridor between Northwest 7th Street and Southwest 80th Street into a continuous, paved greenway for cyclists, runners, and walkers.

When finished, the trail will connect more than 35,000 residents across central neighborhoods to five public schools, four parks, and two Metrorail stations, easing local congestion while linking into the broader Miami Loop network. Following the county's newly approved corridor design contract with Kimley-Horn, planners will compile public comments from this week's open house to refine segment blueprints before returning to neighborhood groups for detailed design sessions later this fall.
