The Lead
After years of watching the sinuous, spaceship-like curves take shape along South Vermont Avenue, Exposition Park officially opened the doors to the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art yesterday. Founded by filmmaker George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the $1 billion project dedicated to visual storytelling houses more than 100,000 square feet of galleries across a campus designed by MAD Architects. Inside, visitors encounter everything from Renaissance masterworks and golden-age comic illustrations to original cinema storyboards, set alongside two state-of-the-art screening rooms and an expansive public research library. Outside, Mia Lehrer’s landscape design adds 11 acres of walkable parkland and native canopy to a corridor long in need of green space. Timed-entry reservations are booked solid through the weekend, but the perimeter gardens and ground-floor public plazas remain open for anyone wandering in from the E Line.
