The Lead
City leaders gathered in North Hollywood on Monday to inaugurate the completed North Hollywood Central and North Hollywood West Groundwater Treatment Facilities. Designed to extract and purify up to 43 million gallons of contaminated groundwater daily from the San Fernando Valley basin, the state-of-the-art sites remove industrial pollutants before feeding clean drinking water directly into the city distribution system. The project marks a major milestone toward reducing reliance on imported water, which currently accounts for more than 70 percent of the municipal supply. With a third facility under construction in Tujunga through 2027, the Department of Water and Power aims to shift the balance toward 70 percent locally sourced water over the next decade.
