Bicycle racks and swim goggles rule West Norvell Bryant Highway early this morning. If you are driving past the YMCA campus before noon, give the young racers plenty of elbow room.

The Lead

The Citrus Memorial Health Foundation YMCA hosts its 10th Annual Youth Triathlon this morning, bringing young athletes ages 5 to 15 to the pavement and pool along County Road 486. The USA Triathlon-sanctioned morning draws competitors from across the county for timed swim, bike, and run legs tailored to age divisions, followed by an open family heat that lets parents race alongside their kids without the pressure of a stopwatch.

Organizers designed the courses to keep junior cyclists and runners safely segregated from arterial traffic, but drivers heading along the corridor should expect extra utility vehicles, course marshals, and cheering squads clustered near the campus entrance until midday. Following the senior division heats that kicked off after sunrise, junior waves roll out through mid-morning before the midday awards ceremony wraps up the day's events.
