Thousands of Donated Books Hit the Tables This Morning

Lecanto, FL · October 10, 2026

Keep a sturdy canvas tote in the car before rolling out this Saturday morning. Between a vast hall of bargain books just up the road and full athletic courts on the ridge, staying home is hardly an option.

The Lead

Citrus County's largest gathering of book lovers gets fully underway this morning as the Friends of the Citrus County Library System opens general public admission for its semi-annual fall mega sale. Staged at the Citrus Springs Community Center, the four-day event gathers tens of thousands of donated volumes neatly sorted across twenty-five categories, from Florida history and vintage sci-fi to children’s picture books and boxed jigsaw puzzles.

Volunteers spent months hauling, inspecting, and alphabetizing donations collected at library branches throughout the county. Proceeds from every paperback and hardback directly fund branch programs, summer reading initiatives, and new media acquisitions for the five-branch system. Doors opened at 9:00 AM today and will run until 3:00 PM before shifting to half-price specials on Sunday and a clearance bag blowout on Monday morning.
