Sunlight is breaking clean across the frost on Broad Street this morning. It makes for an ideal stroll before Sunday dinner.

The Lead

The countywide military tribute banner initiative displays personalized vinyl banners honoring active-duty, reserve, and veteran service members from lampposts across Kalida and neighboring Putnam County communities. First raised for Memorial Day, these banners will hang through Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, giving residents just a few more days to view the portraits and service histories of local soldiers before public crews carefully retire them for winter storage.

Sponsored by families, civic groups, and local businesses, the lamppost displays highlight generations of hometown service, spanning World War II to modern deployments. As the county prepares for midweek observances, taking an evening stroll along downtown streets offers a quiet, personal chance to honor those names before the seasonal takedown begins.
