Three Busy Town Corridors Slated for Fresh Asphalt Next Week
Hartford, VT · October 22, 2026
Chilly overcast skies have settled over the valley this morning, so pull on that heavier fleece before you step out the door. Highway crews are already staging equipment and signs along key thoroughfares ahead of next week's major asphalt overhaul.
The Lead
The Department of Public Works has posted the final schedule for its late-season road milling and paving blitz, targeting worn sections of Christian Street, Airport Road, and Quechee Main Street.
Contractors will begin operating heavy milling machines on Tuesday morning to strip failing asphalt before paving crews arrive to lay down fresh binder and surface courses. The project aims to seal vulnerable segments against winter frost heaves and prevent the deep potholes that troubled local drivers during last spring's thaw.
All three corridors will remain open during construction, though drivers should anticipate one-lane alternating traffic and periodic delays near active equipment. Commuters are encouraged to allocate extra travel time or reroute through Route 4 and Route 5 during peak hours. Flaggers will be in position starting at 7:00 AM on Tuesday morning.
