Morning fog hugs the riverbanks early today, but the chill lifts in time for an evening book discussion on Maple Street. We are heading into the new week with significant infrastructure progress and several neighborhood gatherings across the villages.

The Lead

Crews are entering the critical stretch of a 14-day closure around the VA Cutoff Bridge, working to tie the newly constructed 500-foot span into the surrounding road network. The $24.5 million replacement project realigns traffic across the White River, steering drivers directly from VA Cutoff Road into Christian Street and Route 14 to replace the narrow, aging predecessor.

While passenger cars and delivery trucks follow posted detours along Route 14 and Mill Road, town and state transportation officials kept pedestrian access open across the existing crossing so neighbors can still walk between the two riverbanks. Road crews are spending this week finishing approach paving, curb work, and striping before opening the new deck to two-way traffic. When the switch occurs, work begins on staging equipment to dismantle the old bridge structure.

Spotlight & Story

  • The Old Fire House Hose Tower
