Free Mountain Shuttles Roll Out From Fremont Park Today
Glendale, CA · October 18, 2026
Catching the mountain breeze beats staying indoors this morning, especially with trailhead shuttles rolling and produce crates already lining Honolulu Avenue.
The Lead
Getting into the Verdugos no longer requires hunting for a scarce parking spot along Markridge Road. This morning, Glendale’s Wander the Wilderness Bus makes a scheduled run from Fremont Park, providing free, direct transit to Deukmejian Wilderness Park.
Funded by Metro in partnership with the city’s Community Services and Parks Department, the shuttle service bridges the transit gap between south-central neighborhoods and the 709-acre park in the northern foothills. Buses roll out from Fremont Park every 60 minutes starting at 8:30 AM, with the final morning departure heading north at 11:30 AM and return trips running through 1:30 PM. Riders gain immediate access to hiking trails, shaded picnic groves, and the historic Stone Barn Nature Center without paying a fare or circling the trailhead. After today’s run, the pick-up location shifts to Pacific Park next weekend.
