New Bike Lanes and Crosswalks Ready Along La Crescenta Avenue

Glendale, CA · October 6, 2026

Triple digits in October might test your patience with the calendar, but the morning coffee meetups and street unveilings aren't waiting for cooler air.

The Lead

Following months of construction, the $15 million overhaul of La Crescenta Avenue is officially complete. Stretching 1.7 miles between North Verdugo Road and Montrose Avenue, the project transformed a notoriously fast downhill corridor by trading an outside vehicle lane in each direction for a continuous two-way center turn lane, protected bike paths, and stormwater bioswales. Crews also installed synchronized fiber-optic signals, rebuilt 59 sidewalk curb ramps, and painted artistic crosswalk murals across four intersections. For families walking toward Fremont Elementary, the revamp calms cut-through traffic while establishing a signalized bicycle crossing. City officials cut the ceremonial ribbon tomorrow at 8:30 AM at the Sparr Heights Community Center on Glencoe Way, right after Fremont students finish their annual Walk to School morning procession.
