340 New Affordable Apartments Open Near Fremont Park

Glendale, CA · October 5, 2026

Step outside early if you have outdoor errands planned today—triple digits are rolling back in across the foothills before noon. It is going to be a hydration-first Monday, but there is plenty moving across town to keep you up to speed.

The Lead

More than 7,500 households applied, but as of this morning, all 340 households have finished settling into Pioneer Village, the largest affordable housing development in local history. Situated on nearly three acres along Pioneer Drive just south of the 134 Freeway, the complex dedicates 92 apartments to seniors and 245 to working families, with three homes reserved for on-site support staff. Designed by KFA Architecture, the three five-story buildings feature all-electric infrastructure, shared courtyards, community gardens, and an open pedestrian paseo connecting directly into neighboring Fremont Park. Rents are restricted to households earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income. For neighbors, the project marks the culmination of three years of construction on land the city set aside for relief. Council members and the Housing Authority review follow-up voucher distribution during Tuesday’s joint public hearing.
