Fresh Public Art Installations Set to Transform Neighborhood Streets

Glendale, CA · August 23, 2026

Morning sunlight is already warming up the sidewalk along Honolulu Avenue as vendors set up for the market. Sunday offers a welcome breather across the neighborhood, with plenty to explore before the week ramps up.

The Lead

Three major public art projects are taking shape across local neighborhoods as part of the city’s ongoing Cultural Landmarks initiative. Designed by local creators, the permanent installations aim to reflect neighborhood history while enriching everyday commutes.

The landmark piece, titled “Our Garden Spot” by artist Kassia Rico, introduces three circular benches crafted from smalti glass mosaics along Honolulu Avenue. Each bench highlights distinct elements of regional heritage, from native flora and pollinator orchards to the legacy of the old electric railway. Meanwhile, Glenoaks Boulevard will soon showcase “Hahamongna,” an illuminated median sculpture honoring Indigenous geography, alongside new custom tile installations planned for Fremont Park.

Fabrication for all three sites is entering its final stage, with civic crews scheduled to begin sidewalk positioning and ground installations over the coming months.
