The city acquired the 2.39-acre former JOANN Fabric retail site for $24 million to address a neighborhood where residents average just 0.03 acres of parkland per thousand people — far below regional standards.
With $500,000 in Measure A funding already in place for site design and an additional $6 million federal grant recommendation awarded, municipal planners are preparing for full-scale public visioning workshops. Planned amenities for the site include walking trails, shaded playgrounds, and native drought-tolerant landscaping. Initial conceptual designs from city-hired consultants will head to the City Council for review next spring.
