Verdugo Park Playground Reopens This Afternoon
Glendale, CA · May 6, 2026
Happy Wednesday — the construction tape is finally coming down at Verdugo Park just in time for today's sunshine. It’s a perfect day to leave the heavy layers at home and enjoy the clear skies.
The Lead
After six months of renovations, the city is officially unveiling the modernized playground at Verdugo Park today. The $2.4 million project replaced aging equipment with a state-of-the-art inclusive play structure designed for children of all physical abilities. Beyond the slides and swings, the site now features a poured-in-place rubber surface for safety and expanded shade canopies to combat the summer heat. This project is part of a broader city initiative to update aging infrastructure in our neighborhood parks. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:00 PM marks the full reopening of the north section of the park, providing a much-needed recreational boost for local families as we head into the warmer months.
