Farm Innovation Grants Open Today for Local Producers
Frederick, MD · October 1, 2026
Thick river fog is blanketing Carroll Creek this morning, but it should burn off quickly before an unseasonably warm afternoon. Grab your coffee early and take a moment to look over what's unfolding across town today.
The Lead
Frederick County’s agricultural backbone gets a financial boost starting today, as the Office of Agriculture opens the application window for its Fall 2026 Agriculture Innovation Grant Program. Local growers, livestock operators, and food processors can apply for competitive grants of $5,000 or more to fund cold storage, processing equipment, and expanded operations.
Since launching in 2021, the initiative has pumped more than $2 million into 88 agricultural projects, helping protect family-run operations against development pressure while generating over 300 rural jobs. For small producers transitioning to value-added goods like artisanal dairy or craft cider, the capital often marks the difference between treading water and scaling up. An independent review committee will evaluate submissions once the portal closes at 4 p.m. on October 30, sending final project recommendations to County Executive Jessica Fitzwater for funding decisions before winter arrives.
