A half-century after its original carriage barn welcomed its first visitors, Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums has officially opened the new Robert H. Renneberger Carriage Museum facility.
The 6,000-square-foot, climate-controlled building replaces a cramped 1976 structure that lacked modern preservation controls. Supported by state and county capital funding, the new hall safeguards more than 26 historic wagons, sleighs, and horse-drawn carriages dating back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, protecting sensitive wood, leather, and ironwork from seasonal humidity shifts. Beyond protecting fragile artifacts, the expanded space gives curators room to showcase how local transit shaped everyday life, commerce, and agricultural labor on the historic estate. Visitors can now tour the collection alongside the manor house and farm museum exhibits on North Market Street.
