A steady morning drizzle is keeping the pavement slick, but that won't slow down the start of the weekend across the district.

The Lead

Plans for a new 26-home residential pocket along East 116th Street hit a major roadblock after the Fishers Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend denial of the rezoning petition. Developer Integra Builders had asked the city to rezone 10.45 acres at 10401 E. 116th Street from the Legends at Geist planned unit development to allow four street-facing brownstones and 22 single-family lots.

While city planning staff initially supported the filing as consistent with the suburban residential targets of the Fishers 2040 comprehensive plan, commissioners sided firmly with neighboring residents who turned out to voice concerns over traffic and incompatible architecture. Commission member Pete Peterson pointed out that while brownstones make sense in the urban downtown core, the styling clashes with the established Geist corridor. The final determination now rests with the Fishers City Council, which will take up the ordinance for a deciding vote.

Spotlight & Story

  • Thorpe Creek
    • Flowing past Cyntheanne and under Southeastern Parkway before feeding Geist Reservoir, this winding waterway carries a century-old clerical typo. Named for 1820s settler John Tharp, historian Augustus Finch Shirts accidentally slipped an "e" into his 1901 county chronicle—and mapmakers never changed it back.
