Microgrants Now Available to Start Your Neighborhood Walking Group

Fishers, IN · October 6, 2026

Step outside early and you will feel that crisp October bite before clear skies warm the afternoon. If your evening has an open hour, 3D printers are spinning up at the maker space tonight.

The Lead

The City of Fishers is putting municipal funds directly behind neighborhood strolls this fall. Through a newly launched Neighborhood Walking Grant program under the city’s Culture of Health initiative, local homeowners associations and neighborhood groups can claim a $200 microgrant to start or expand a regular community walking club.

The dollars are intentionally flexible: organizers can spend the money on high-visibility walking gear, hydration, healthy snacks, or meetup supplies, and the city provides custom yard signs to rally participants. Only 10 microgrants are available across the city on a first-come, one-per-neighborhood basis. Parks officials see the initiative as an effortless way to transform casual evening walks into durable neighborhood bonds and healthier routines.

Applications remain open through October 30, with city recreation staff announcing the ten recipient neighborhoods by mid-November.
