Historic School Campus Reopens After $45 Million Overhaul

Fishers, IN · August 23, 2026

Sunday morning brought a quiet sunrise, giving us a calm start before neighborhood activities and weekend projects pick up around town.

The Lead

Hamilton Southeastern Schools officially marked a milestone this week with the grand reopening and ribbon cutting of Fishers Elementary School at 11442 Lantern Road. The three-year, $45 million project nearly doubled the campus footprint to more than 107,000 square feet, expanding capacity from 28 to 36 modern classrooms. District leaders chose to renovate and preserve the historic site—where public education has taken place since the late 1800s—rather than relocate. While the interior features state-of-the-art learning hubs, safety upgrades, and collaborative spaces, roughly 23 percent of the original structure was carefully restored, including the historic gymnasium. The expanded building now accommodates new attendance boundaries established during district redistricting. Principal Dr. Emily Supergan praised students and staff for their flexibility throughout construction as doors opened for the 2026 school year.
