School District Projects Lower 2027 Tax Rate
Fishers, IN · August 7, 2026
Billy Strings headlines night two at the Event Center tonight, setting a lively tone for the weekend.
The Lead
Hamilton Southeastern Schools delivered positive news for local property owners during Thursday's Finance & Facilities Committee meeting. Chief Financial Officer Tim Brown reported that updated property assessments from Hamilton County came in significantly higher than expected across district boundaries.
As a result, the district’s proposed 2027 referendum tax rate is projected to fall below 22.75 cents per $100 of assessed property value—a lower rate than officials originally projected earlier this spring. Strong local property values allow the district to generate necessary operational funds for classroom instruction and staff retention without raising local tax rates as sharply as initially feared. The full school board will examine the formal referendum rate figures when public budget hearings commence later this autumn.
