Savor the calm across the yard this morning while the sun climbs. The crisp afternoon air makes for ideal porch weather before tonight’s freeze rolls across the ridge.

The Lead

County road crews and contractors are preparing for a major overhaul on Flucom Road starting early Monday morning, kicking off nearly a year of travel adjustments for area drivers. Jefferson County contracted Pace Construction Company to execute the extensive safety upgrades, which span from basic roadway widening to long-term drainage improvements.

Initial work beginning Monday focuses on clearing and grubbing operations conducted under single-lane flagging conditions that will slow daily traffic. Over the coming months, crews will add four-foot paved shoulders, install rumble strips, apply an ultrathin bonded wearing surface, and replace aging culvert pipes.

Flagging crews will direct alternating traffic through active work zones daily through the early construction phases, with overall project completion targeted for September 2027. Commuters heading toward De Soto should build ten extra minutes into morning routines.
