State Championship Rings and a Busy Park Weekend Ahead

Festus, MO · September 17, 2026

City Hall is in for a full agenda today, between morning water talks and tonight's planning session. Give yourself plenty of shade on the sidewalk in between.

The Lead

Larry G. Crites Memorial Park will close to all vehicle traffic early Saturday morning as the annual Bowles-Wright Invitational welcomes dozens of cross country programs from across the region. The meet turns the park's scenic 5K loop into a spectator powerhouse, but local runners will start celebrating well before Saturday's first starting gun.

On Friday evening, the district will honor the reigning 2025 Class 4 state champion girls team during an on-field ring ceremony at Tiger Stadium at 6:15 PM, just ahead of the varsity football showdown against De Soto. Spectators heading to Crites Park on Saturday will need to plan for off-site parking along Collins Drive and make use of pedestrian entrances, as park gates shut to vehicles until the final varsity races wrap up around midday. Volunteers and race marshals are scheduled to begin course setup by dawn on Friday.
