Stage lights and stadium bulbs are both firing up before sundown, giving you plenty of reasons to get out tonight. Grab your weekend planner early to make room for everything taking the stage across the prairie.

The Lead

Live theater takes over the prairie tonight as Prairie Youth Theater raises the curtain on its fall production of Mary Poppins Jr. at the John Paul II Theater inside Cottonwood’s Angelus Center.

For weeks, student performers from across our corner of the prairie—including Ferdinand, Craigmont, and Cottonwood—have spent afternoons rehearsing tap numbers, English accents, and vocal harmonies. The company split the cast into two rotating groups, the Park and Rooftop ensembles, giving more than thirty local kids their turn in the spotlight over the next two weekends.

The opening performance kicks off at 6:30 PM this evening, followed by a Saturday double-header featuring a 2:00 PM matinee and another 6:30 PM show. Organizers suggest securing reserved seats online before heading down Highway 95, as opening-night auditorium seating fills quickly once doors open at 122 Substation Road.

Spotlight & Story

  • Joe Bieker's Sawmill
