A heavy blanket of overcast is holding the prairie under 50 degrees this morning. Grab an extra layer before running errands down the highway or heading into tonight's six o'clock council session.
The Lead
The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude has named its 2026 Echo Award recipients, spotlighting three community cornerstones who spent decades preserving Camas Prairie history.
The Cottonwood Lions Club earned recognition for building the fairgrounds' Farm Museum around 1970, securing vintage agricultural equipment and regional heritage for generations of fairgoers. Local author Jerry Johnson was honored for publishing pioneer histories and designing collector decks featuring area lookouts. Longtime volunteer filmmaker Scott Putnam received accolades for logging thousands of hours producing video archives, campus walking tours, and documentaries on regional homesteaders.
The museum hosts a public ceremony and reception in the chapel this Saturday at 2:00 PM, giving neighbors a chance to celebrate the people who keep local heritage alive before winter sets in.

Spotlight & Story
- Mason Butte
- Rising to 4,639 feet northwest of town, this volcanic summit anchors the headwaters of Big Canyon Creek. Nez Perce oral traditions originally named it for the steep uphill footraces held along its slopes long before county communications towers claimed the skyline.
