Months of summer chores and barn duties come down to this week as the Lewis County Fair opens its four-day run Thursday at the fairgrounds in Nezperce. Local youth from across the prairie have spent the past several weeks finishing record books, fitting calves, and grooming market lambs for Thursday morning’s official weigh-ins at the Wemhoff Livestock Pavilion.
Exhibits inside Baldus Hall open for entries Thursday afternoon, featuring everything from garden produce and home canning to student photography and baking. The four-day gathering culminates Saturday morning with the annual parade down Oak Street and the youth livestock auction, where local bidders routinely turn out to reward junior showmen for their seasonal labor. Haulers can pull trailers into the fairgrounds beginning at 11:00 AM Thursday to start livestock weigh-ins.
