PennDOT launched a major overnight bridge repair effort late Monday that will shift evening travel patterns across the Route 1 and Interstate 295 corridors through October 2. The project completely shuts down the ramp connecting Business U.S. 1 north to eastbound I-295 between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM every weeknight. Nighttime commuters heading toward New Jersey are being detoured along Woodbourne Road, Route 213 (Maple Avenue), and back onto U.S. 1.

Simultaneously, crews are implementing alternating single-lane closures on I-295 between Route 1 and Route 332 in Middletown and Lower Makefield. The structural work aims to patch worn bridge deck joints before winter freeze-thaw cycles settle in. Drivers heading out late should expect slower speeds near the work zones, while daytime travel across all three highways remains completely unrestricted.
