Thirty autumns ago this month, Lower Southampton took a decisive step to protect the rolling meadows of Playwicki Farm from encroaching suburban development, chartering the Playwicki Farm Foundation in September 1996 to safeguard the 110-acre parcel. What began as a rescue effort for historic barns and agricultural open space has blossomed into a beloved township ritual of trail walking, seasonal food truck rallies, and open-air family gatherings along Bridgetown Pike.
Today, that stewardship spirit takes an everyday neighborhood turn. The foundation is opening the grounds from noon to 4:00 PM for its seasonal pet-care fundraiser, offering walk-up dog nail trims where every fifteen-dollar contribution goes directly toward maintaining the property's walking trails and stone heritage buildings.
Volunteers will be on hand across the afternoon answering questions about upcoming preservation work, with gates opening wide along Bridgetown Pike at noon.
