Drivers rolling into downtown with low battery levels have a new spot to plug in. On Thursday morning, city officials cut the ribbon on two high-speed electric vehicle charging stations in the east parking lot of the public library on 16th Avenue. The dual-port stations, installed through a partnership with transit provider MetroLINK and backed by state clean-energy grant funds, can power up four vehicles simultaneously. For apartment dwellers and visitors without dedicated home garages, the chargers fill a long-standing gap within walking distance of local shops and reading rooms. Library director Bianca Sierra welcomed the addition as a natural expansion of everyday civic services. The library chargers mark the first finished phase of a four-site regional network, with construction crews expected to break ground on a secondary charging plaza at The Bend in the coming weeks.
