Hero Street Festival Kicks Off at Noon

Racks of bicycles and early walkers are already tracing the river path this morning. Between street celebrations next door and engines revving downtown, you have plenty of reasons to get out early.
The Lead
Just across the city line, historic Hero Street in Silvis transforms into an open-air celebration today as the fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival gets underway at noon. Co-organized by Silvis Main Street and the municipal government, the eight-hour gathering serves as the region’s premiere launch for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Dozens of neighborhood food vendors, artisans, and community organizations will line the storied street alongside live musical acts and performances by the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico. For families in our backyard, it offers a walkable afternoon of regional culture and remembrance honoring the Mexican-American families whose multi-generational military service gave the street its name.
Crews closed vehicle access this morning between 1st and 2nd Avenues to make room for staging. Festivities run continuously until 8:00 PM tonight, with free admission and street parking available on adjacent residential avenues.
