Thousands of spectators will line downtown sidewalks this morning as the Quad Cities Labor Day Parade rolls through town, carrying forward a tradition that celebrates the area’s industrial heritage. Staging begins early in the John Deere Harvester Works parking lot before the procession steps off at 11:00 AM, following a route along 12th Avenue, turning south onto 7th Street, and moving along 15th Avenue toward 3rd Street.
In keeping with longstanding event guidelines, all participating motor vehicles must carry union-built North American VINs, honoring the machinists, autoworkers, and tradespeople who shaped the riverfront. High school marching bands and civic organizations will march alongside dozens of union locals tossing candy to curbside crowds.
Downtown streets close to through traffic beginning at 10:00 AM, so drivers should detour south along Avenue of the Cities until the final units clear the route this afternoon.
