Classic Cars and Rescheduled Birding Walks Settle In Today

De Armanville, AL · October 11, 2026

Yesterday's blustery front has finally moved out, leaving quiet gray skies and a much slower pace for Sunday morning coffee. If you were planning on that guided birding trek at Choccolocco Park, you have a whole extra week to dust off the binoculars.

The Lead

Organizers of Calhoun County's inaugural SkyTrail Festival made the call this weekend to push the festival's flagship guided birding tour at Choccolocco Park to next Saturday, October 17. The move followed a wave of storm-prompted cancellations that swept through outdoor valley events on Saturday, though Friday evening's kickoff social at the Longleaf Event Center proceeded without a hitch. The countywide festival highlights more than 188 documented avian species that pass through or nest along the Appalachian Highlands Birding Trail corridor. County tourism officials noted that postponing the outdoor treks ensures participants get firm footing on the park's walking trails rather than sodden wetlands. The educational stations, family crafts, and guided field walks will assemble at the main park pavilion next Saturday at 8:00 AM.
