New $600,000 Grant Clears Ground for Future Industrial Jobs

Canada, KY · October 10, 2026

Rain is tapping on the tin roofs across the hollow this morning, making it a fine day to linger over a second cup of coffee.

The Lead

Pike County is getting a major push toward bringing new industry into the mountains. State and federal leaders announced a $600,000 grant for the Pike County Fiscal Court through the Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization program, awarded during the annual SOAR Summit. The funds will finish out the 88-acre Wolfpit Industrial and Technology Park by constructing a fully certified, build-ready pad. For valley residents and workers looking beyond coal, shovel-ready acreage is often the deciding factor for outside manufacturing and logistics firms choosing where to locate. Pike County Judge-Executive Ray S. Jones II confirmed the earthwork marks the final development phase of the park, clearing the way for county officials to begin aggressively marketing the property to prospective employers this winter.
